The Pioneer BDPLX88 takes to build quality to a reference level. Using a unique three-chamber construction, it has separate compartments for digital, analog and power sections. The main block and power supply block are fully shielded and the casing has a 3mm iron base. Little wonder it weighs 13.4kg! With such heavyweight construction, vibrations are virtually eliminated, meaning reduced jitter and a more detailed sound.

When it comes to converting a digital signal into analog, the BDPLX88 is one of the finest. Using four audiophile-grade Sabre 32ES9018 DACs per channel creates a highly refined and clean sound, with exceptional stereo sound staging. When connected to a suitable Pioneer AV receiver the PQLS jitter reduction system keeps sound smooth and natural, and it sounds pretty darn good with other brands too.

Obsessive attention to detail

As you’d expect from an ‘LX’ model, the entire audio signal has been scrutinized by Pioneer’s experts and tuned with specially selected components for the highest performance. This obsessive attention to detail even includes a ‘Zero Signal’ port at the rear for additional grounding. This helps in further reducing background noise, giving the BDPLX88 an ‘inky’ black backdrop against which the subtlest notes can clearly be heard.
